GENERAL QUESTIONS

GENERAL QUESTIONS

  • How do I schedule an appointment?
Living Life Well requires a 24-hour online reservation notice. Do call us if you need immediate attention and we will do our best to accommodate you in our schedule.

  • How do I know which therapy is right for me?
You can set an appointment with us for a medical consultation so we can help you determine which therapy is right for you.

  • What is the difference between medical acupuncture and just plain acupuncture?
Quoting the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture, Medical Acupuncture, as opposed to acupuncture, is the clinical discipline of acupuncture as practiced by a physician who is also trained and licensed in western bio-medicine. Thus, the approach to patient health care is a unique combination of western and eastern modalities - the best of both worlds.

  • What is the difference between conventional western medicine and alternative medicine?
With alternative medicine, the emphasis on the patient is his/her general health and well-being. The goal is to help the individual attain a state of balance and harmony within him/herself and with his/her environment. Traditional western medicine on the other hand approaches a particular problem or ailment by relieving the symptoms. However, any physician who incorporates the two modalities into his/her practice has a big advantage over those who practice just one discipline.

  • Are there any side effects?
Our patients seldom experience side effects. There may be changes in your body that can be attributed to what is called "Healing Crisis". This occurs because the body undergoes an intense period of cleansing and rebuilding after the course of the treatment. In this process, the body is healing itself and becoming stronger. It is usually referred to as a "crisis" because the symptoms can be dramatic and rather unpleasant during this time. Usual reactions could include nausea, headache, changes in sleep patterns, emotional state, urination, bowel patterns, appetite or any other way the body uses to loosen and eliminate toxins. This usually lasts for a very short period only.

  • How many times should a patient come back for treatment?
Even though there is a significant amount of improvement during the first treatment, we usually recommend a certain program for our patients. Treatments work cumulatively, the number of visits depending on the intensity and origin of the disorder or imbalance. Acute problems (lasting 3 months or less) are generally treated for 3 visits (once a week). Chronic illnesses or internal problems (lasting more the 3 months) are required 6 visits (twice a week). As the condition improves, the frequency of treatments decreases. It is also recommended that the patient come for maintenance (1 or 2 times a month).

Acupressure is done by applying pressure on specific points of the body to relieve discomfort or pain by releasing congestion and smoothen the energy flow.
